CV, resume, and biodata are often used as if they mean the same thing, but employers may expect different levels of detail. Knowing the audience helps you send the right document.
Resume
A resume is a focused summary of relevant experience, skills, education, and results. It is usually one or two pages and tailored to a specific role.
CV
A curriculum vitae can be longer and more detailed, especially for academic, research, medical, or international applications. It may include publications, conferences, teaching, and projects.
Biodata
Biodata commonly emphasizes personal, educational, and family details in contexts where that information is requested, including some Indian applications. For a modern private-sector job, follow the employer’s instructions and avoid unnecessary personal data.
When in doubt, use the requested file name and format, then tailor the document to the role.
