How to Write a Resume for an Internship

Create an internship resume that turns coursework, projects, campus work, and transferable skills into relevant evidence.

Internship recruiters do not expect a long career history. They want to see curiosity, evidence of effort, and a clear connection between your interests and the work.

Lead with the opportunity

Name the internship area in your summary and choose two or three strengths that match the posting. Make the target obvious within the first few lines.

Use academic evidence

Include relevant courses, research, labs, student organizations, competitions, volunteer work, and personal projects. For each project, explain the problem, your role, tools, and outcome.

Show readiness

Add technical skills you can demonstrate, communication or teamwork evidence, and a portfolio or project link when appropriate. Keep the layout simple, check spelling, and tailor the order of sections to the internship description.
