Career Change Resume: Highlight Transferable Skills

Translate experience from one field to another with a career-change resume that leads with transferable skills and credible proof.

A career-change resume works when it explains the connection between what you have done and the work you want to do next. The goal is translation, not disguise.

Start with the new target

Name the role or field in your summary and choose three capabilities that matter there. Use the job description to understand the problems the employer needs solved.

Translate past work

Rewrite bullets around communication, analysis, operations, customer outcomes, project ownership, or other transferable patterns. Add a short project, course, or portfolio item when it proves a new skill.

Keep the timeline clear

Use a normal work history with honest titles and dates. A focused skills section can help the reader connect the dots, but it should support real evidence in your experience. Explain the full story in the cover letter or interview.
