How Should I Name My Resume File?

Use a professional resume file name that identifies you and the document clearly for recruiters, employers, and application systems.

Use a short file name that includes your name and document type, such as Priya-Sharma-Resume.pdf or Daniel-Lee-CV.docx.

Avoid names such as resume-final, new-resume, final-final2, emojis, and unexplained abbreviations. Do not include sensitive identifiers or a private phone number in the file name. If you are tailoring several versions, add the target role after the document type, for example Priya-Sharma-Resume-Data-Analyst.pdf. Follow the employer’s file-name instructions when they provide them.
