Should I Include a Photo on a Resume in India?

Understand when a resume photo may be requested in India, when to leave it out, and how to protect a professional application.

For most private-sector roles, do not add a photo unless the employer or official application specifically requests one. A photo can introduce bias and take space away from evidence of your skills.

Some industries, government processes, or biodata formats may ask for a photograph. Follow the official instructions in that situation, use a professional image, and never substitute a photo for required identity documents. When applying internationally, check local norms and the employer’s directions. A clean, ATS-friendly resume without a photo is the safer default when no instruction is provided.
