Should I Include Salary Expectations on My Resume?

Learn why salary expectations usually do not belong on a resume and where to share them when an employer asks.

Usually, no. A resume should focus on the value you can bring, including relevant experience, skills, and results. Salary expectations can distract from that purpose and may anchor the conversation too early.

Follow the application instructions

If an employer explicitly requires salary information, provide it in the requested field or a short separate note. Use a researched range when a range is allowed, and consider the role, location, level, and total package.

Keep the resume focused

Use your summary and experience to show fit. Discuss compensation after the employer understands your qualifications, unless the application process requires it sooner. Never place sensitive financial details in a public resume or portfolio.
